Pediatric – Ambulatory (Urgent Care)
The outpatient pediatrics rotation is a six-week rotation divided into two parts during the first and second halves of second year. This rotation is designed to provide exposure to a variety of topics in pediatrics with focus on expanding knowledge of well-child exams, screening and evaluation for abnormal developmental issues, and exposure to pediatric subspecialties.
The overall goal of the pediatric curriculum is to prepare family medicine residents to provide high-quality outpatient pediatric care as independent providers, able to use specialty and community resources to meet their young patients' needs.
Goals and Objectives:
- To provide routine care of well children and adolescents including providing anticipatory guidance for parents.
- Assess normal child development and common developmental problems
- Begin managing common pediatric illnesses in the outpatient setting
- Gain familiarity with appropriate specialty referrals and community resources for referral of pediatric patients
